Digital Photography for Beginners The ULTIMATE Guide to Taking Better Pictures with Digital Cameras eBook Darren Rowland
This book includes some good tips on the art of photography including light and composition and the use of flash but I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner, especially one who is trying to decide what kind of digital camera to buy, or even one who has just bought a camera and is trying to figure out how to use it. I got the sense that the author understands how to take good photographs but doesn't really know much about different kinds of digital cameras. For example, he differentiates between SLRs that are digital and Digital DSLRs. I've not seen anyone else make this distinction and his explanation was so sketchy it left me scratching my head as to what he was trying to say.Another example of unevenness is the discussion of exposure and the use of f stop and shutter speeds. He did a good job of explaining the concept but failed to take the next step of explaining to the new photographer what dials to turn or menus to use to get the right f stop and shutter speed. Granted, all digital cameras are a bit different but they still have common features. And if you're putting yourself out as an expert, you should be able to at least point people in the right direction.

Digital Photography for Beginners The ULTIMATE Guide to Taking Better Pictures with Digital Cameras eBook Darren Rowland Reviews
This is a good overview book for any person that is looking to improve their photography skills and doesn't know too much about the field. Although more experienced hands may also find a number of new tips that they previously did not know.
First up it has a review of the different types of cameras available, what they are good for and their limitations.
Then it goes into the full spectrum and analysis of taking good photos and includes areas such as
Using light to improve photographs and an understanding of its importance.
Learning to control the aperture speed, differentiating between different types of camera.
Using and controling shutter speed.
Using Flash.
& Basic photo editing techniques
It was new to me that using the zoom inside a compact digital camera will reduce the image quality slightly.
There is a lot of info that the book covers and it explains each concept in enough detail to get the point across. The language used is simple and to the point and a number of photos are used to illustrate the authors points.
Overall a very good guide that will greatly benefit people new to the field and also hand over some new tips to more experienced hands.
As a new watercolorist I find it extremely necessary to take pictures at times when I see something that catches my eye I want to paint at a later date. I purchased Digital Photography for the Beginners from and use it often on my with composition of pictures in mind. This book is simple enough for me to follow and leave the complicated stuff to the artist who uses photography as his medium....I only want to paint watercolor pictures from my photos. I would recommend this book for beginners for sure.Digital Photography for Beginners - The ULTIMATE Guide to Taking Better Pictures with Digital Cameras
Just because I have had a digital camera for a long time doesn't mean I really know how to use it. I grabbed this book immediately and am not disappointed at all. Now I am all fired up To learn enough about my point & shoot to be able to move up to a DSLR. Maybe by Christmas or sooner,I can ask for a present from my family.
I write cookbooks and would love to be able to take pictures of my prepared recipes. My point and shoot pictures are okay, but I picked up great hints to make them better. My lighting has not always been right.
Buy this book for a beginner or for someone who wants an easy to read guide on how to use their camera.
I am the family photographer so I was interested to see if this book could help me take better pictures. I feel like I'm a pretty decent photographer but so many of my shots are just so-so.
I was pleased to find that this is a very comprehensive book.
Digital Photography for Beginners talks about everything from choosing the right camera for you, to the most effective ways to use the flash, f-stops, aperture speed and editing the photo.
I really liked the conversational style of the book -- it made it very easy to read and understand and apply. I am glad I picked up a copy of this book; I know that I will refer to it often and I will take better pictures because of it.
Gave this book a "4 star" rating because I feel it mostly delivered upon the promise made by it's title and it's inexpensive price. "Digital Photography for Beginners" by Darren Rowland covers the basics needed to get a general idea of what goes into taking quality photos.
I knocked one star off my rating simply because I cannot say it is an "ultimate" guide. It is, however, a good, fast read that would give a novice a reasonably solid foundation, and I do recommend it as a starting point.
I disagree with the reviewer who knocked this book for lacking in specifics. This book is specific in its definitions and generalized when speaking on elements of composition and that, in my opinion, is out of necessity. There are simply too many variables to take into account (ranging from make & model of camera to lighting conditions to type of lenses, etc. ...) for one book to cover and not overwhelm a "beginner".
If you're a beginner or someone needing a quick refresher then I believe this book to be a great choice.
I picked up this book for my 14 year old who is very interested in photography.
I'm glad I did.
This is a very well organized Beginner's photography guide that takes you from the basics of using a digital camera and all the way to creating and editing professional looking pictures. The information is presented in a very user friendly way, making it easy to understand the material.
I would highly recommend this for someone who is looking for a easy to understand, no frills guide to digial photography.
